"Where learning comes alive"

Fort Mill Just for Kicks
, founded in 2009, is the first soccer program in Fort Mill specifically designed for preschool-aged children.  In fact, to this day, we are the only soccer organization in Fort Mill that focuses exclusively on this age group.

What does that mean to a FM Just for Kicks participant?  It means we ensure that our coaches have the right personality, demeanor and overall understanding of how to teach soccer to children between the ages of 3 and 6.

The first and foremost goal of
FM Just for Kicks is for participating children to have fun.  Our secondary goal is for the children to be introduced to the world’s most popular team sport, soccer.  FM Just for Kicks always will be a kids’ organization first and a soccer organization second.

During our seasonal 8-week sessions, your child will participate in a group with either a 10:1 (3 and 4 year olds) or 12:1 (5 and 6 year olds) child to coach ratio.  Our program serves both boys and girls and classes are broken into groups by age.  Classes last 45 minutes and are held at the same day and time each week (please see our schedule page).

Our curriculum has been developed by experienced child development experts and is comprised of a set of soccer-related activities and games.  FM Just for Kicks is designed to teach children life skills, improve their ability to follow directions and enhance their listening skills.

The 8-week
FM Just for Kicks session is just $65 (this includes a FM Just for Kicks t-shirt that will be handed out at the first class and a participation trophy given at the end of the last class).

FAQ's

What does my child need to bring to class?

?  Nothing!  We provide all of the equipment for the class activities - balls, goals, cones, etc.  We do recommend that parents bring a water bottle to use during breaks and a drink and/or light snack for their child to have after wards.

What should my child wear?

?  Typical loose-fitting, outdoor play wear is recommended.  A t-shirt and shorts are perfectly fine.  As the weather gets cooler, sweatshirts, sweatpants, gloves, etc. are appropriate.  In addition, shin guards are not required.  Each child spends the majority of time kicking their ball as opposed to kicking at each other!

What kind of footwear does my child need
?

?  Sneakers are completely acceptable.  Soccer cleats are not necessary for FM Just for Kicks.

Are there breaks during the class?

?  Yes, there may be a short water break during class, especially if the weather is warm.  This gives the kids a chance to drink from their water bottle.

Do I need to stay with my child during the class?

?  No.  We know that children can act differently when parents are watching and we want them to learn to play without their parents present.  This helps the children interact with each other and with the coach as the authority figure.  Parents are provided a nearby “parent area” that is within view of the children or are free to leave, as long as they return to pick up their children by the end of class.

Can I request that my child be placed in a group with his/her friend or sibling?

?  Absolutely!  We register all ages (3 to 6) for every session.  Children are broken into two classes by age – 3 and 4 year olds in one and 5 and 6 year olds in the other.   However, you can request that your child remain with his/her friend(s) or sibling(s).  If there is ever any confusion, just speak to one of the coaches and they will ensure that your child is in the desired class.

Isn't this a young age for my child to be introduced to soccer?

?  Absolutely not!  FM Just for Kicks is fun, and we put participation, safety and socialization ahead of everything.  We do not stress or promote any kind of competitive environment.  Our mission is to expose preschool-aged children to fundamental soccer skills in a positive environment and everything is based around the child having fun.  Your child will have plenty of opportunities to participate in a more competitive sports environment.  At these young ages, the focus should be on fun and building their soccer abilities and life skills.

THE BIG QUESTION?

Do you enjoy working with children?  Are you looking for an activity that has no cost but will allow you to spend quality time with your child?

If the answer is "yes" to the above two questions, then you may be a candidate for a coaching position with FM Just for Kicks.  We are currently looking for coaches in the Fort Mill Area.  Prospective candidates will be provided with a background check, must have experience working with children (perhaps just your own) and, most importantly, need the right overall personality, energy and demeanor to work with young children.

If you are interested in a coaching position with FM Just for Kicks, please send an email listing your credentials to Fmprepschool@comporium.net

Fort Mill Just for Kicks is a low-pressure and fun soccer program designed specifically for children between 3 and 6.  Our goal is to introduce students to the sport in a positive, high-energy atmosphere.  Soccer can be a means to cultivate an active & healthy lifestyle, help fight childhood obesity and learn about the many positive aspects of teamwork and sportsmanship.

FM Just for Kicks
is for boys & girls and does not require any previous sports experience.  The curriculum is structured to teach the fundamental skills and basic rules needed to play soccer. We use a variety of drills, soccer-related activities and mini soccer games to help make each class a fun and exciting experience for your children.

In fact, we don't simply teach soccer to kids - we use soccer as a tool to teach kids about life!  FM Just for Kicks is broken into two age groups.

FM Just for Kicks
for 3 and 4 year olds

Our program for 3’s and 4’s stresses sport participation, movement and fun.  We believe it is important at this stage to provide a low-pressure, positive environment so children feel comfortable taking part in all the games and activities.  By allowing the students to realize that they can execute the fundamental skills, we want to build their self-confidence.

The classes progress through the variety of skills used in soccer by utilizing a series of creative activities and games.  The focus is on having students participate in each activity in a structured atmosphere where developing listening skills is at a premium.  A fast-paced, fun approach without too much time spent on any one activity keeps the students engaged, and the concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship are highlighted during class.

FM Just for Kicks
for 5 and 6 year olds

Our program for 5’s and 6’s concentrates on the development and refinement of soccer skills as opposed to simply sports participation.  While the environment is still low-pressure and provides plenty of positive reinforcement, we want to help ensure the students are competent in all aspects of the game.  A prime directive is to build “confidence through competence”.

Each student has the opportunity to improve the quality of their skills and movement through plenty of repetition.  The proper techniques are taught and the students receive plenty of coaching hints along the way.  The curriculum consists of a combination of individual and team-oriented activities in an effort to prepare the students for future participation in soccer league play.
